Montanita and the surrounding small pueblos, Olon, Manglaralto, Curia, San Jose, Las Nunez and Entrada have since the late mid - 90s been a tropical escape from the hustle of Guayaquil as city dwellers discovered its pristine beaches and world class surf since named, La Punta. As more Ecuadorian's visited Montanita in the late 90s and early 2000s , the small town began to grow its reputation as a refuge for artisans and surfers to live a bohemian, carefree tropical lifestyle. Robert Ross, the owner of Ecuador Foil, is also the owner of the ME Hotel and bases all his tours out of ME. Robert has lived in between Montanita and Santa Marianita, Ecuador since 2011 when he sold everything he owned, and left Los Angeles, California with a bag full of surfboards and his dog, yadin.
